The Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth

When people ask me why I work on this issue of ending juvenile life without parole, I immediately go back to my work when I was just out of college, volunteering with youth who were incarcerated in Los Angeles, and a kid looking me in the eyes and telling me he had no hope for his life. He was 15 years old and that’s the image that I continue to carry with me. For me, this is really about returning hope to all the people who are being subjected to these human rights violations, and particularly this [youth] population.
