National Domestic Workers’ Alliance

I live out in Oakland and I’m field director with the National Domestic Workers’ Alliance. I’ve had the incredible joy of working in this sector for the last 9 years, and over the last few years have been part of our delegation to Geneva to neogitate the first-ever convention for decent work for domestic workers at the International Labor Organization, which was a very amazing experience&… Usually the reaction I get when I share with people the work that we did and this huge victory that we had, a landslide vote in favor of this comprehensive new international law to set minimum standards for domestic workers, they’re like, “Wow, that sounds great! But how does that matter here when the U.S. doesn’t really ratify international conventions?" That’s what I want to get to, why it matters to us, what we think it helped us move forward with, and what we think it can still help us move forward with.
